The Grand Canyon – for travel destinations in the USA, this is one of the most well-known. Flagstaff is an 80 mile drive from Grand Canyon National Park. Don’t make the mistake of just pulling in, looking over the edge and walking. There’s a lot to experience on the South Rim alone.
It’s possible to travel back to the time when the Fred Harvey Company – a hotel chain of restaurants and hotels connected to railway lines – invaded the area. A fun way to do this is by taking Railway Express Tour on the vintage route that leads from Williams, Arizona to the Grand Canyon Historic Village. Here, visit the El Tovar Hotel, inaugurated in 1905, where “Harvey Girls” brought meals to the guests’ tables. Meals without the Harvey Girls are still served in the dining room today.
Where to spy the Grand Canyon from afar – the gondola ride Arizona Snow Bowl. Also seen are a cinder cone volcanic field and the red rocks of Sedona.
