Easton Brings Hilton to Canada’s Distillery District: Easton Group of Hotels, Markham, Canada, will build Canada’s only Curio by Hilton, marking the first hotel within a kilometer of Toronto’s historic Distillery District and the last remaining Grade II listed building in the district. The full-service hotel with 392 rooms will be a 31-story building that preserves the exterior of the listed building as three base floors. The property is designed by IBI Architects, ERA Heritage Architects and Studio Munge. The original building was built in 1890 and stored up to 15,000 barrels of alcohol until it closed in 1990. The building has six floors, which will be converted on three levels for Curio by Hilton. Construction is expected to start in the middle of the year.
Hotel Indigo in Minneapolis: IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the signing of the 218-room Indigo Minneapolis Northstar Downtown hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Opened in 1962 as an independent hotel named Northstar Hotel, it is part of the integrated, mixed-use Northstar Center complex, which also houses offices, retail outlets and a parking garage with 955 parking spaces. The complex is to be refurbished and after completion will comprise 220 residential units and around 500,000 square meters of office space. This is the first Indigo Hotel in Minneapolis. There are currently 129 Hotel Indigo Hotels around the world, with 116 more being planned.
