Cloudflare announces new firewall features and the Oahu migration tool

Web technology company Cloudflare today announced enhancements to its zero trust firewall capabilities as a continuous development update for Cloudflare One.

The expansion will help companies secure communication between employees in an increasingly remote workforce and protect it regardless of location in all offices, data centers and clouds.

Cloudflare explains in its Press release the traditional Firewalls rely on hardware boxes installed on company premises. Due to their localized nature, they are not suitable for hybrid workforces or cloud applications. Virtual firewalls aimed to address this problem, but IT staff still had to plan for capacity, a tedious and time-consuming process. Cloudflare’s cloud-native firewall is designed for remote applications and is instantly scalable, so no capacity planning is required. It also provides robust security policies for a global workforce.

At the same time, the company announced Oahu, a new program to help customers migrate their legacy hardware to the zero trust security suite, Cloudflare One. Oahu enables IT managers to easily migrate their firewall policies from legacy hardware-based firewalls to Cloudflare solutions. Qualified organizations can also receive discounts to offset switching costs. You can also enter a raffle to win a trip to Oahu, Hawaii.

“CIOs know that the corporate network is changing rapidly, and we want to make this transition easy, flexible, and scalable,” said Matthew Prince, Cloudflare’s chief executive officer. “With our Oahu program, we’re making it easy for companies to leave outdated technology anywhere in favor of a firewall provided from the cloud.”
