East West Center Public Journalists Conference in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Several hundred journalists from around the world will be in Honolulu June 27-30 for the 2022 East West Center International Media Conference.

The purpose of the East West Center International Media Conference is to connect journalists from the United States, Asia and the Pacific, for professional development and to discuss industry issues.

This year’s theme is “Connecting in a Zero-Trust World” and is open to the public.

The keynote speaker on the opening day of the conference on Tuesday 28 June will be Nobel Peace Prize winner and press freedom champion Maria Ressa of the Philippines.

Ressa is the CEO and founder of Rappler, an online news organization. She received the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize with Dmitry Muratov “for her efforts to uphold freedom of expression, which is a prerequisite for democracy and lasting peace”.

The conference usually held in an Asian country.
The 2018 conference took place in Singapore.
The 2016 conference took place in India.
The 2104 conference was held in Okinawa.

Organizers said that this year journalists from about 30 countries will take part.
