Faustino Labutong Tabios of Lahaina passed away on August 6, 2022 in Hale Makua, Kahului. He is survived by his daughter Erlinda Tabios Delos Santos (Elpidio, deceased), his son Florendo Tabios (Alma) and Melandrino Tabios (Myr-na). . His wife Monica Tabios died in 2008 along with his daughter Nicolas in 1946, Margarita Nelson (Robert, deceased) in 2021, his sister Serafina Salvador in 2012 and his granddaughter Marilyn Delos Santos in 2016. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sam Delos Santos, Floyd Tabios (Alyssa), Myles and two granddaughters, Myrna Kittredge (Patrick) and Alona Lei Watson (David), plus 4 great-grandchildren, Chandler & Cameron Watson and Apolonia & Anna Tabios.

Faustino was born on February 15, 1922 in San Nicolas, Ilocas Norte (Barrio 5). In 1942 he and his wife Monica married in Dingras. In 1944 they welcomed their first child. In 1946, at the age of 24, he joined the last group of the Sakadas of 1946 to work in the sugar plantation field with his townmates at the Waialua Sugar Plantation on Oahu. He worked there as an irrigator for two years, then was fired and went to work for the Honolulu Rail Company. He was then released and went to work on the pineapple plantation on Lanai. During a labor strike in late 1949, he returned permanently to the Philippines. In the late 1950’s, his uncle Eleno Labutong, who lived on Maui, called him to inform him of a job opening for an irrigator in Lahaina, Maui. He returned to Hawaii in 1951 and worked for the Pioneer Mill Company until 1986.

Faustino enjoyed gardening and listening to the Philippine radio station. From 1951 to 1972 he lived in Wainee Village (aka Lahaina Pump) and was able to buy a home in Kelawea Mauka in 1972. He lived in his home in Lahaina until 2017 and moved to Hale Makua until his death. Faustino will be greatly missed by his family, numerous friends, neighbors and old colleagues. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Wailuku and Kahului for their love and support.

The visitation will be on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Maria Lanakila Church in Lahaina from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral at Maui Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m.
