From the News: Hawaii’s ‘988’ line has been activated

On Saturday, Hawaii put the national telephone number “988” online. Users dialing 988 from the 808 area code will reach the Hawaii Department of Health and Human Services’ Hawaii CARES Crisis Support with access to crisis services, including suicide prevention, mental and emotional health support, and substance abuse support.

Hawaii switched to phone calls using the 808 area code to allow for activation of the 988 hotline. People calling 988 from other area codes are connected to a crisis center in another state.
