Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation to resume fall classes, use of interior design under Safe Access Oahu

HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will resume Fall Classes and begin offering restricted indoor use as part of the Safe Access Oahu program starting Monday, October 4th.

DPR reported that it will be COVID modified approval guidelines to provide recreational opportunities and activities while ensuring the safety of the community.

Most courses can be attended free of charge. Courses on offer include basketball, volleyball, swimming lessons, arts and crafts, hula, and pickleball – among others.

If you want to take part in free courses, you can register online. However, people attending paid courses must register in person at the park where the class is located.

Here is a list of the online and personal registration dates and times for the fall courses:

Online registration

  • District I. (Hawaii Kai to McCully) and District II (Makiki to Aiea) – Monday, September 20, at 4 p.m.
  • District III (Pearl Ridge to Waianae to Wahiawa), District IV (Waialua to Waimanalo) and District V. (Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park) – Wednesday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m.

Personal registration

  • District I. and District II
    • Monday, September 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Tuesday, 09/21, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • District III, District IV and District V.
    • Wednesday, September 22nd, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Thursday, September 23rd, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

According to the DPR, new procedures – in accordance with Safe Access Oahu – must be followed during fall instruction and the use of indoor facilities.

Here is a list of the procedures:

  • Employees, contract workers, volunteers, and members of the public over the age of 12 must provide a full COVID vaccination and valid ID. The public can produce negative test evidence within 48 hours of entering the property. Employees, workers and volunteers can present a negative test within seven days of entering the property. Anyone who spends 15 minutes or less on the property within 24 hours does not need to show proof of vaccination or a negative test.
  • Proof of vaccination against the coronavirus is a physical copy of the state-recognized vaccination card or a photo of it. The one from the. generated QR code Hawaii SMART Health Card Program can also be accepted in selected FREP institutions.
  • Some indoor facilities do not require a vaccination certificate or negative test. Some of these include toilets, changing areas, and the educational threat of the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve
  • Permitted indoor activities must comply with the Safe Access Oahu program, collection rules, and proof of vaccination or a negative test.

According to officials, a face mask is required regardless of vaccination status.
