Hawaii Pacific peppered the field with hits, amassing 30 total hits in a double-header softball sweep over city rivals Chaminade 10-6, 9-4 at Sand Island Park on Sunday.
The Sharks (22-26, 15-15 Pacific West Conference) hit a season-high 17 in game one against the Silverswords (15-24, 11-19 PWC). The second game resulted in 13 more HPU hits.
Poliahu Aina led Hawaii Pacific, hitting 7-on-8 with two doubles, four runs made and five RBIs. Brandi Leong added a double, five runs scored and a pair of RBIs in the 5-for-10 hit from the lead spot.
Freshman pitcher Taylor Thompson (11-14) won in the first game, allowing six runs with eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings. She was replaced by Malia Torres after pitching five innings. Perfectly relieved, Torres threw two innings with two strikeouts to extend their consecutive scoreless innings streak to 27.
After a strong relief effort, Torres faced a quick turnaround at the start of game two. Her scoreless innings streak was broken at the end of the first, but she rallied to lead the Sharks to victory after their 23rd full game. She allowed four carries on nine hits and spent a pair of walks with a strikeout.
