Jacquemus is heading to Hawaii for his spring 2022 show

As Paris Fashion Week continues, one of France’s hottest designers heads to the Pacific to launch his latest collection. On March 9th, Simon Porte Jacquemus will present his spring 2022 collection, Le Splash, in Oahu in the early afternoon.

“For our first show outside of France, I wanted to explore unexpected places. Hawaii was characterized by its dreamy and inspiring landscapes with incredible mountains, beaches and sea,” said Jacquemus Fashion via email. “It fully reflects the mood of the ‘Le Splash’ collection that we are presenting. I was also convinced when Tom Kneller photographed our campaign there last year. This show is a dream come true for my team and I and I hope it will be a great summer vacation for everyone who sees the show.”

The Destination Show will be the first widely dispersed catwalk since the pandemic began in 2020 – even brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana have mostly kept things local in France and Italy. Gucci looked the furthest, taking over Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard for its spring 2022 runway. Jacquemus’ outing will certainly rack up the most air miles, although the brand will not be flying guests or models from outside the Pacific region and the United States. Instead, locally cast models and guests from Asia, Australia, the United States and other Pacific Islands are welcomed to Hawaii to see the new collection on the beach. (The brand also promises a minimal set design to reduce environmental impact.)

How will the Jacquemus show hold up against both Paris Fashion Week and the ongoing war in Ukraine, which labels like Balenciaga and Isabel Marant have acknowledged on the catwalk? There will be no live stream; Instead, the brand will unveil looks on its Instagram and beyond Fashion Runway on March 10th.
