Hawaii Craftsmen press release

Hawaii Craftsmen is pleased to announce that the 2022 exhibit will be traveling from Oahu to Maui. The exhibit begins on Oahu in mid-October at the Downtown Art Center and then travels to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Schafer Gallery through December. Molokai artists are invited to submit their work and the jury will be held in person on Molokai in August.

The 2022 judge will be Neida Bangerter, director of the world-class Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC). As an artist, educator, curator, and gallery director, Ms. Bangerter is uniquely qualified to bring her broad expertise and sensitivity to the tradition of contemporary Hawaiian crafts to the jury process.

The Hawaii Craftsmen Annual Statewide Exhibition has been held annually since 1967 and showcases the finest traditional and contemporary crafts from across the state of Hawaii. The judge visits each island to make public presentations and select the very best work for exhibition.

The Hawaii Craftsmen Annual Statewide Exhibition 2022 judging will be held a month earlier than usual to allow time for the exhibition of select work on Oahu and Maui. The jury will be held in person on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Kauai and Oahu during the last week of August. Lanai will be judged online. Exact times and details will be announced shortly.

The Oahu exhibit runs September 17 through October 16 (tentative) at the Downtown Art Center in Honolulu. The Maui exhibit runs November 5 through December 30 (tentative) at the Schaefer International Gallery at MACC in Kahului.
