First things first, no, “Instagramable” isn’t a real word.

Aside from that, Oahu was recently announced as the third most visited place in the world on a list of 50 vacation destinations, according to international travel brand Big 7 Travel. And that’s no surprise to those who have lived on or visited O’ahu — and the rest of the Hawaiian Islands — for years. But how did Big 7 Travel come up with its answer, since we all know that O’ahu is number one in our hearts?

“Sampling results from Big 7 Media’s 1.5 million viewers and our global editorial team can be drawn from a comprehensive scoring system that analyzed the number of hashtags per destination,” Big 7 Travel said in an emailed press release about the results of the company its overall list. “Final results are ranked based on their visual appeal and popularity on social media.”

The top ten list of websites are as follows:

  1. Singapore

  2. Boracay, Philippines

  3. Oahu, Hawaii

  4. Tokyo, Japan

  5. New York City, New York

  6. Banff, Canada

  7. Amalfi Coast, Italy

  8. Chicago, Illinois

  9. Lisbon, Portugal

  10. Halong Bay, Vietnam

It’s true, Oahu is very visually appealing. With a plethora of postcard-perfect beaches, beautiful hiking trails and stunning sights, it’s almost difficult to get a bad photo of the island. In fact, in our article 8 Dreamy Summer Visions From Hawaii Social Media Influencers, we’ve rounded up a selection of our favorite summer scenes captured by social media influencers, giving you a good look at why the island ranks third in the world.

And it’s not just pros who snap all of these Instagram-perfect shots, everyday visitors and locals alike can snap selfies all over Oahu that will make their off-island friends insanely jealous. If you want to take your own photos of Oahu that you’ll cherish forever, our friends Maryrose and Reid Hicks of the Wanderlustyle Blog wrote this article: “6 Perfect Photo Tips and Spots for Your Hawaii Vacation. ‘, which will serve as a practical guide for your own O’ahu photography journey.

Of course, just because Oahu is rated as one of the most Instagrammable places on earth doesn’t mean those who aren’t as tech-savvy — or enthusiastic — will miss out. Just being here on the islands is enough for many, regardless of where O’ahu — or any of the Hawaiian Islands — ranks.
