HONOLULU – The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors – Kimberly Leimomi Agas, Hospitality and Community Director, Mahina Duarte, Social Entrepreneur, Stephanie Iona, Kaua’i Community Affairs Specialist, Hawaii Island Farmer James McCully and Michael White, Maui hotelier and government relations veteran.
“This dynamic group of appointments complements HTA’s diverse board of directors as we accelerate our efforts toward a regenerative tourism model that is focused on the needs of our community,” said HTA President and CEO John De Fries. “Balancing the well-being of our people and place with significant economic, environmental and cultural benefits is critical to our state’s recovery.”
The Board of Directors of HTA is a policy-making body composed of members appointed by the Governor of Hawaii and confirmed by the Hawaii State Senate. Board members serve as volunteers and guide HTA’s work in the holistic management of tourism and the fulfillment of HTA’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan and the interacting pillars – community, natural resources, Hawaiian culture and branding.
The new HTA board members will serve a term beginning July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2026. They will replace outgoing board members Micah Alameda, Fred Atkins, Daniel Chun, Kyoko Kimura and Kimi Yuen.
“We appreciate and thank our board members for their dedication, hard work and service with Aloha to our communities,” said George Kam, HTA Board Chairman. “Their contributions are far-reaching, from creating our current Strategic Plan to helping develop our Destination Management Action Plans for each island.”
