UNLV Rebels take on Hawaii and Wyoming in Seniors Meet

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s and women’s swim and dive teams will complete the 2021-22 home roster when they host Hawai’i and Wyoming in their Seniors Meeting from Friday (January 28) through Saturday (January 29). Spectators interested in attending must wear a mask.

Competition begins Friday at 4:00pm with the swimming events leading up to the diving events scheduled for 6:30pm. Saturday’s competition final will open with a special recognition for seniors (9:50am) before the remaining competitions for swimming at 10:10am and diving at 12:30pm

Fans can watch the meet live stream on the UNLV Athletics YouTube channel, as well as live scores on the Meet mobile app. The official results of the meeting will be published on UNLVRebels.com.

LAST TIME-OUT: Last weekend, the Rebel Women won 12 of 16 events, earning their second consecutive year a double win over State rivals UNR with a score of 167-128. Meanwhile, Scarlet and Gray’s men’s team returns to the pool for the first time since defeating UC Santa Barbara, 150-107, almost three weeks ago on Jan. 8.

REBELS ON MOUNTAIN WEST: UNLV currently holds four of the Mountain West’s fastest individual times for the season. Super senior Kate Afanasyeva tops this list with her two MW leaders above 50 rear (24.57) and 100 rear (52.98). Additionally, senior Gabby Lizzul leads the league in the 200m fly (1:58.24) and student Sarah Koopmans is first in the 100 IM (56.89).

UNLV WAC GUIDE: The Rebel men have topped the WAC rankings in 10 events this season. Leading this group, each with two top marks, are Junior Panos Bolanos in 100 back (46.48) and 200 back (1:41.18), Junior Cam Castro in 1000 free (9:21.07) and 1650 free (15 :04.59). and freshman Adnan Beji in the 200 chest (1:55.71) and 100 IM (50.25). Senior Sam Willstrop’s 100 Breast (52.74), Junior Chris Mykkanen’s 500 Free (4:19.62), George Ratius’ 100 Fly (46.90) sophomore, and Dominik Bujak’s 400 IM (3:46.62) round these out list off.
