Hawaii State Judiciary – Press Release: Fifth Circuit (Kauai) is seeking candidates for an independent Grand Jury Counsel

LIHUE, HI – The Circuit Court of the Fifth Circuit is seeking candidates for an independent grand jury counsel. The remuneration for independent legal advisors is based on the statutory provisions.

Article I, Section 11 of the Hawaii State Constitution provides that whenever a grand jury is constituted, an independent counsel shall be appointed, as provided by law, to advise the members of the grand jury on matters brought before them.

In accordance with the Revised Statutes of Hawaii (§612-51 through §612-57), the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court appoints grand jury attorneys for the four judicial districts of the state and selects from among those appointed to exercise justice are licensed in Hawaii who are not public employees.
