A delay in rain woke the bats of the Hastings Little League baseball team.

After Hastings tied the game with a three-run blast at the end of the sixth inning, Hawaii scored eight runs in additional innings en route to an 11-3 win at Sunday’s Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Hastings, only the second Nebraska team to reach the LLWS, found themselves in an early 3-0 hole, with the offense battling Hawaiian left-handed pitcher Kaikea Patoc-Young, who allowed only two hits over five innings.

But lightning and later rain invaded the area, and the game came with a delay of nearly four hours.

When the tarpaulin came off, Hastings came to life.

Owen Ablott opened the final inning by picking up a mistake and Kowen Rader followed to center with a single. That set the stage for Hunter Nepple, who started a game-tying three-run homer on the left field.

But Hawaii responded with eight runs on six hits, including a home run in the park in the top of the seventh.

After two quick outs early in the game, Hawaii’s next four racket hits, including two doubles, took them 3-0 up.
