Hawaii’s Kaniho Brothers lead the way as Boise State Forces 4 Turnovers, No. 10 BYU 26-17 tees

Hank Bachmeier threw for 172 yards and Boise State forced four turns in a 26-17 staggering win over No. 10 BYU on Saturday.
Hawaii‘s Kekaula and Ka’onohi Kaniho, both Kahuku alumni, together scored nine tackles in the win, with younger brother Ka’onohi having his breakout game when the cornerback freshman scored five tackles with a pass break and the first interception of his college career .
Cyrus Habibi-Likio ran for a season high of 75 yards and a touchdown, and Andrew Van Buren added a season high of 60 yards and a touchdown. The Broncos (3-3) have had a losing streak of two games in the series.
Jaren Hall threw for a career high 302 yards and a touchdown for BYU (5-1). Tyler Allgeier ran for 73 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars outnumbered Boise State 413-312 in total yards.
Hall looked sharp with a rib injury despite two absences in the first quarter. He completed long passes to open BYU’s first two drives. Hall underlined the second drive with a 14-yard blow to Samson Nacua, which led to the 10-0.
Boise State rallied to take a 20-10 half, benefiting from consecutive BYU fumbles. The Broncos were the first opponent to lead the Cougars at any point this season.
The Broncos were tied when Cyrus Habibi-Likio cleared for an 11-yard sprint. Scott Matlock won an Allgeier fumble back at BYU 24 to set up Boise State’s first touchdown.
Boise State took the lead 17-10 after Andrew Van Buren fell 1 yard. The Broncos’ second touchdown came five times after Lopini Katoa fumbled a kickoff return at BYU 23.
The Cougars struggled to recover after repeatedly failing to convert in the red zone in the second half. Katoa’s second fumble stopped a ride at the Broncos 13. An incomplete fourth down pass from Hall stopped a second ride at Boise State 5.
BYU eventually shortened it to 23-17 in the middle of the fourth quarter after Allgeier fell 1 yard. A 59 yard catch from Gunner Romney in the opening game of the drive set the score.

Boise State: Strong defensive play helped the Broncos run away 23 in a row. The ability to stifle BYU when it came down to it helped Boise State overcome a mediocre attack on the offensive.
BYU: Consecutive sales in the second quarter tore away any offensive momentum the Cougars generated in the first quarter. BYU struggled to convert in the red in the second half.
