Masako Fujii, 91, from Honokaa, died at home on October 8th. Born in Haina, she was a retired postal worker for the Honokaa Post Office and a member of the Honokaa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and the Buddhist Women’s Association. Private services held. No flowers or codes (gifts of money). Survived by son Jason (Gemma) Fujii of Honokaa; Daughter Kay (Dean) Tanaka of Hilo; Nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Arthur Scott Leithead, 72, of Hilo, died on October 26th at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired attorney, former district housing director, former member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, a graduate of Hilo High School, UH-Manoa and William S. Richardson School of Law, and the author of Hilo, Hawaii: Its Origins and the Pattern of its Growth, ”Dissertation, UH-Manoa 1974, still used by researchers and often cited in Hilo history. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Monday (November 15) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 6 p.m. Private urn burial at a later date. Limited seating; Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by Mrs. Yvonne Leithead of Hilo; Son Jonathan Leithead from Las Vegas; Daughters, Erica Paik (Chris) Honda from Hilo and Lisa Canete (Kawika) Hughes from Mililani, Oahu; Sister Bobby Jean Leithead (Steve) Todd of Hilo; Brother Leslie (Pat) Leithead of Michigan; seven grandchildren; Cousins, nieces and nephews. Jesse Bruce McBraun, 51, from Keaau died on November 1st at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a music lyricist, music lover, and known for his infectious smile and open-minded personality. Private services. Survived by father, Jay S. Letuli, also known as Henry S. McBraun of Keaau; Mother, Judith E. Medeiros of Greenwood, Ark .; Brothers Patrick J. McBraun Sr. from Oahu, James R. Letuli, and Jacob T. Manuel B. Niere, 72, from Waimea, died at home on October 9th. Born in the Philippines, he was a general cleaner for HCC at the Hilton Waikaloa Village. Albert “Beans” L. Pavao, 92, of Hilo, died at home on September 21. Born in Hilo, he was the supervisor of the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., heavy equipment operator for the former Hilo Sugar Mill, World War II veteran of the US Army, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and Puuwai Opio Senior Softball Team. Visit 8: 30-9: 30 a.m. Monday (November 15) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral mass at 9:30 am funeral noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Patrick Masami Urabe, 75, of Hilo, formerly of Buena Park, California, died on October 29th at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Lihue, Kauai, he was a retired Boeing and a US Army veteran in the Vietnam War. Private service on Kauai at a later date.
