City teams are working to place Shaka Santa in front of the Honolulu Hale before the 37th annual Honolulu City Lights. The Santa sculpture has been a staple food since 1989. Tutu Mele was created in 1994 and received a makeover in 1998 that adopted the new nickname, replacing her traditional North Pole attire with her muumuu, complete with kukui nut lei and traditional Hawaiian bracelet.
