Teenagers from Ellensburg, Hawaii arrested for drug-related crime

ELLENSBURG, Washington – A 19-year-old Ellensburg resident was arrested Tuesday in Hawaii after allegedly giving drugs to a man who then died after taking them in August.

On August 7, 2021, officials from the Ellensburg Police (EPD) and Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue responded to a reported overdose on North Walnut St., a press release said. But despite life-saving efforts, 21-year-old Sage Francois had passed away.

The detectives then began investigating Francois’s death and “developed a probable cause for arresting a 19-year-old Ellensburg resident for the crime of delivering a controlled substance
Controlled substance murder. “

Under Washington state law, a controlled substance homicide occurs when a person illegally administers a controlled substance to someone who then dies after consuming it.

EPD detectives then received an arrest warrant on Sept. 14 for the male suspect they believed fled to Hawaii to avoid prosecution, the publication said.

On October 5, officers from multiple departments, including EPD, the Yakima Federal Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Honolulu Police, located him in Kona, Hawaii.

He is now waiting to be extradited back to Ellensburg to face the indictment, the press release says.

Officials said her thoughts “continue with Sage’s family and the families of other victims of overdose deaths.”
