Kaimuki Public Library is closed today after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a press release from the Hawaii State Public Library System, the library is undergoing a thorough cleaning and is due to reopen tomorrow.

The library employee Kaimuki, who tested positive for the corona virus, has no direct contact with the public and has not worked in the library since Friday.

All library staff are required to wear masks, practice social distancing, and hand sanitization guidelines. Areas with high contact are disinfected according to the recommendations of the federal and state governments.

Mallory Fujitani, Special Assistant to State Librarian Stacey Aldrich, apologized to library visitors for the temporary closure.

“This is another reminder for all of us to stay vigilant by wearing masks, observing social distancing and following recommended safety protocols such as vaccinations to protect our families, our employees and our community,” Fujitani said in the press release.

This is the second time an Oahu public library has been temporarily closed due to COVID-19 in five days.

Wahiawa Public Library closed Wednesday for a thorough clean after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The library will be open again on Thursday.

The state of Hawaii public library system reminds the public that they can visit libraryhawaii.org to download e-books, movies, and other digital collections.
