A 61-year-old woman was hit by a city bus in Liliha this morning.

The collision occurred shortly before 6 a.m. at the intersection of Liliha and Bates Streets

Honolulu police said a bus operated by a 42-year-old man was traveling north on Liliha Street when it met the pedestrian crossing Liliha Street on a marked zebra crossing.

The woman was taken to hospital in serious condition. Police said her condition later worsened to critical condition.

The bus driver suffered no injuries. As the police announced, there were no passengers on the bus at the time.

Neither speed, drugs nor alcohol played a role in the collision.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Honolulu Police have reopened Liliha Street between Judd Street and Kunawai Lane after a collision in which a city bus hit a pedestrian.

Police, Honolulu Fire Department and emergency medical services responded just before 6 a.m. on Liliha and Ihe Streets, where the bus met a woman described as being in her mid-50s to early 60s.

More than a dozen firefighters used hydraulic equipment, cutters and jacks to lift the bus from the woman trapped under the front of the bus, according to the fire department.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition.
