Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 12 new coronavirus-related deaths and 330 new confirmed and probable infections nationwide, bringing the state’s total to 726 deaths and 76,521 cases since the pandemic began.

No further information was initially available on the most recent deaths.

The U.S. coronavirus-related death toll is over 679,000 today and the nationwide number of infections is more than 42.4 million.

Today’s new confirmed and probable infection count by island includes 216 new cases in Oahu, 43 in Maui, 38 in Hawaii, 29 in Kauai, two in Molokai, and two Hawaiian residents diagnosed outside of the state.

State health officials have added likely infections to the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test, but who are believed to have had the virus based on their known exposure and symptoms, or a positive antigen test.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases by island since the outbreak began is 53,349 in Oahu, 8,814 in Maui, 9,588 in Hawaii County, 2,074 in Kauai, 139 in Lanai and 205 in Molokai. There are also 2,352 Hawaiian residents diagnosed outside of the state.

The statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Monday.

Health officials also said today that of the total number of infections in the state, 7,106 cases were considered active. Officials say they consider the infections reported in the past 14 days to be a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases is down by 91 today.

Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 4,136 had to be hospitalized, with 47 new hospital admissions reported today.
